Artist Study: Yayoi Kusama

In Art Studio our students are learning about the work of Yayoi Kusama, a Japanese artist who was a self-described “obsessional artist,” known for her extensive use of polka dots and for her infinity installations. Today she is one on the most celebrated contemporary artists in the world!

After reading Yayoi Kusama covered everything in Dots and Wasn’t Sorry. By Fausto Gilberti , I invited our students to move freely through different stations and apply polka dots to walls, balloons, and themselves. The act of peeling and placing these dot sticks is great for our preschoolers fine motor development as well as color identify.

The students then got explore a small infinity room and learned about reflection.
Most of all we learned how art can be much more than just drawing on a paper.
