This week up in The Studio we were inspired by our beautiful rose garden. The kids had fun drawing the roses, observing the different shapes of the petals, leaves and stems. Then, they used red, white and bright pink to paint the flowers. While they were painting, some students used the back of their paintbrushes to draw back into their paintings. Finally, they mixed green and white and dabbed on a few leaves. Our CMP artists are so talented and have so much fun with paint!
Materials
- Roses or any bouquet of fresh flowers will work
- Tempera paint, choose colors to assist in color mixing based on the colors in the flowers
- Paintbrushes
- White paper
Instructions
- Observe the roses. “Everyone open up your eyes up really, really big and look at the roses. What do you notice? What shapes do you notice? What king of lines do you see?”
- Draw the roses, based on observation.
- Paint the roses, right over the drawing.
- Turn the brush around and draw back into the painting.
**For children 4 and above, I give them green and white to mix together, to apply leaves and stems.
