DIY Playdoh

There is power in playdoh! Check out our blog post to see the important role playdoh has to offer in child development.

Materials needed:

-Microwavable bowl

-2 cups flour

  • cup salt
  • tablespoons cream of tarter

-2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

-Food coloring (optional) -Dried lavender (optional)

Steps:

  1. Combine the flour, salt, and cream of tarter into a microwaveable bowl
  2. Heat two cups of water to boiling
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to water, add food coloring (10 drops or more)
  4. Combine water/oil/color mixture into dry ingredients and stir to combine
  5. Place mixture back in the microwave for 30 seconds-1 minute to help “cook” playdoh to favored consistency
  6. Once cool enough to touch, dump onto the counter and knead for 2-3 minutes. The kneading will make the playdoh smooth. If you want to make the color darker, you can add more drops and knead in.

If you would like to add an additional sensory element to your playdoh, we suggest adding dried lavender to the mix.
