young toddlers

Environment

Our Young Toddler Program is for children 12-17 months old. This class supports your child’s eagerness for learning in a fun, creative, engaging environment. Our dedicated toddler classroom has special furniture and safety measures to cater to your child’s size, helping to build body awareness. Children will be asked to sleep on mats, cribs will not be available. Children are welcome to bring their bottles or sippy cups. Young toddlers must be able to pull to stand, walking is not a requirement.

Ratio

Our 1:4 teacher-to-child ratio provides each child with valuable interactions and support as children experience great developmental accomplishments. We also have an additional staff member and office staff that are available for those days when the toddlers need some extra comforting.

Curriculum & Daily Activities

The Young Toddler Program focuses on assisting little ones with accomplishing age appropriate milestones that enhance their independence and get them comfortable in a school setting. Children will learn the stepping stones of forming independence, communication skills, and awareness of academics. Many of the activities revolve around developing their fine motor and sensory skills such as working with Play-Doh, shaving cream, and paint.

The outdoor playground has age-appropriate materials and allows the children to explore plants, herbs, trees, play areas, and water/mud stations. Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided by parents, and we will offer organic fruits and vegetables. Lunch time is around 11:30AM and the children nap from 12:30PM –2:30PM. We do our best to help our young toddlers adjust to their school schedule but understand that they may need some flexibility.

About three times a month, the class will get a visit from Art Studio, Tinkering, Nature Lab, and Outdoor Kitchen to encourage their exploration and love of both art and science.

Unique Benefits

Carmel Mountain Preschool goes above and beyond to ensure your child receives the support that they need to thrive. Conscious Discipline methods are used by our well trained and educated teachers and staff members. The Conscious Discipline breathing techniques are incorporated daily, so the children feel soothed and learn how to regulate their bodies. We encourage you to check out more information on these methods as they can be very helpful in using the right words at the right time for your child to learn from their actions. We also have an Occupational Therapist and Speech Language Pathologist available to observe and offer support to teachers and students in many areas.
