Carmel Mountain Preschool The Dot Art Project

For this simple art project we first read “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds. While reading the book, we had a group discussion about different things that inspire us to create art. We also talked about shapes and what we know about dots. The story reminded us that everyone sees art in different ways and that art can never be wrong. We enjoyed talking about what we love about creating and viewing art.

After our discussion, we had fun creating our own “Dot” paintings. We remembered learning that adding white to colors makes the original color lighter so we added white onto the plate for fun. We also noticed that dots are round and the shape of a cork is also round. We decided that we would use the corks and our fingers to make our own dots. Some friends used dots to make other objects such as flowers and the sun. Other friends chose to mix colors on the paper to create a variety of dots on their paper. Each painting came out different and unique and the kids enjoyed exploring with the paint and corks.
