Our preschoolers love stories they can sequence and retell. We read “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly” and after we finished, we discussed the sequence of the story. For this activity, we used magnet story telling props for a visual aid.
After we read the story, the fun began. We worked in small groups and brainstormed our own version of the story. Each child picked stickers of animals they would like their “old lady” to swallow. After they picked, they colored their lady and then placed the stickers in the old lady’s stomach.
After their picture was complete, the children retold their new story as the teacher scribed for them.
