Materials needed for Moon Rock Science experiment:
- 4 Cups Baking Soda
- 1/4 Cup water
- Powder Tempera Paint
- Glitter
- Vinegar
- Pipettes
- Paper
- Crayons
- Pencils
We began our Moon Rock Science by taking 4 cups of baking soda, 1/4 cup of water, and paint/glitter. The kids helped measure out each ingredient. We mixed everything together and the kids rolled out the dough mixture into small “rocks” and left them to dry overnight.
The next day, we worked in pairs to drop vinegar onto the moon rocks with a dropper. We placed the moon rock onto a paper plate and each child was given a small cup with vinegar and a dropper. They took turns squeezing the vinegar onto the rocks. They observed what reactions occurred when they dripped the vinegar onto the rock. It was fun to see the rocks erupt and dissolve.
After we completed the Moon Rock Science experiment, they wrote in their science journals about the observations they had made.
